a rug for the boy’s room {and a giveaway!}…

My two son’s share a bedroom. It has a mix of styles going on but leans toward simple and modern. I’ve only put a couple things on the walls like barn stars and some signs I made. The pelmet boxes are simple with a geometric pattern as is the fabric covering the top of the closet. The one thing that I think I added a bit too much of was the color red.
The pelmet boxes are red, the comforters are red and the rug is red. A little too much. The paint on the wall, Benjamin Moore’s Beacon Gray, does balance it all out but I needed to de-red-ify the space a bit. I decided to start with the rug and see how it goes. The rug I had in there was a round hooked rug that I found at HomeGoods. It has found a new home in the basement to make room for this one…

This Union Jack rug from Mohawk Home has been a perfect addition for the space. It continues the “geometric patterns only” look I’m going for since this is a boys room. The rug is the type that could fit any space or age. I can see them still having it in this space when they are older. It also could be moved to the family room. It brings some more blue and white into the room to counterbalance all the red.

The added bonus of a rug like this in a room for little boys is that all the lines make a great road map for matchbox cars. I’m told the big red stripes in the middle are the highway.

Mohawk Home is generously offering the readers here at No. 29 Design the chance to win a rug of their own! The winner will receive any Mohawk rug up to 5 x 8 in size and under $150 in value. The giveaway will run until December 30th at 12 am, EST. Enter to win and tell your friends! Follow along with #ilovemymohawkrug.
